Triplex Company History

It all began in 1958 when I.W. Phillips purchased a metal hose division from a Houston distributor. The resulting enterprise, Metal Hose and Specialties Company, was formed to service the growing petro-chemical and refining industry in Houston, Texas, and its surrounding areas. Our name changed to Triplex Rubber & Supply Company in 1959 with the word “Triplex” meaning “Having three main parts.” Quality, Service, Integrity.

During the 1960s and 70s, the company grew with the active industrial expansion in the Gulf Coast. As a result, Triplex established a number of new branches throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. This expansion has led us to where we are today with 11 branches and a corporate office.

Triplex, Inc. and the Triplex Logo have become well-known symbols to our customers. Scott F. Wimberly designed the Triplex Logo. The Triangle shape gives recognition to the three original founders of the company, I.W. Phillips, Scott F. Wimberly and J.B. Rainwater. The Flexonics man was included as a representative of the Metal Hose and Specialty business, which was then a major part of the new company’s product offering. Most important of all was the use of three very significant words in the logo reflecting the business philosophy,“Quality, Service and Integrity.” These remain the cornerstones by which Triplex, Inc. continues to operate today.
